Entre los diversos caminos que ha tomado el análisis histórico y antropológico del cuerpo, ha sido de gran relevancia el interés que se ha desplazado de lo semiótico al cuestionamiento sobre las posibilidades de análisis de la “experiencia”. El presente artículo señala la importancia y las dificultades que representa preguntarse por el estudio de la experiencia corporal desde la investigación histórica y cultural. Tiene como objetivo aproximarse al estudio de la experiencia corporal desde la investigación histórica, a través del análisis de uno de los personajes más importantes del carnaval dominicano, el Diablo Cojuelo. El presente artículo es producto de una investigación realizada durante el 2019 en los barrios populares de Santo Domingo, República Dominicana, mediante el método etnográfico. Al finalizar se concluye, que el carnaval es un espacio permisivo donde el cuerpo rompe sus límites inventando nuevas figuras y formas configuradas de forma histórica. Se propone que existe cada vez una mayor atención al rostro, así como el paso del traje auditivo al traje centrado en la mirada del espectador, que surgirá una vez que el personaje toma como nuevo escenario el Malecón y acude a modo de paseo ante la mirada del jurado y los medios de comunicación.
Among the various paths taken by the historical and anthropological analysis of the body, the shift from interest in the semiotic to questioning the possibilities of analysis of “experience” has been of great relevance. This article points out the importance, as well as the difficulties, of asking for the study of body experience from historical and cultural research. Its objective is to approach the study of body experience from historical research, through the analysis of one of the most important characters of the Dominican carnival, the “Diablo Cojuelo”. This article is the product of an investigation carried out during 2019 in the popular neighborhoods of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, developed using the ethnographic method. At the end it is concluded that carnival is a permissive space where the body breaks its limits, inventing new figures and forms that are historically configured. It is proposed that there is increasing attention to the face as well as the transition from the auditory suit to the suit focused on the gaze of the viewer that will emerge once the character takes the Malecón as a new setting and goes as a walk before the gaze of the jury And the media
