dc.descriptionThis research studied the behavior of the current state and rehabilitation of the Basic Training Department building of the National Polytechnic School, Quito-Ecuador. The building has six floors and is made up of two blocks (classrooms and stairs) separated by a construction joint. These buildings were built more than 40 years ago and have structural pathologies such as short column (classrooms) and torsion (stairs). Furthermore, the study has detailed information such as architectural and structural plans and material properties. The evaluation and rehabilitation of the structure was carried out through static linear analysis, spectral dynamic analysis; and nonlinear static analysis based on the recommendations of the Ecuadorian Construction Standard NEC-15 in addition to the international code ASCE 41-17, where it is concluded that the sections and reinforcements are not adequate to guarantee a good seismic performance, since the structure reached a collapse level for the design earthquake. The influence of masonry is considered in each analysis. The structural reinforcement based on reinforcement of infill panels improved the seismic performance of the structure, reaching a level of life safety for the design earthquake, increasing the maximum lateral load capacity in the most flexible sense.en-US
dc.descriptionEsta investigación estudió el comportamiento, el estado actual y la rehabilitación del edificio del Departamento de Formación Básica de la Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Quito-Ecuador. El edificio cuenta con seis pisos y se encuentra conformado por dos bloques (aulas y gradas) separados por una junta de construcción. Estas edificaciones fueron construidas hace más de 40 años, y poseen patologías estructurales como columna corta (bloque de aulas) y torsión en planta (bloque de gradas). Además, el estudio dispone de información detallada como planos arquitectónicos, estructurales y propiedades de los materiales. La evaluación y rehabilitación de la estructura se realizó por medio del análisis lineal estático, análisis dinámico espectral, y análisis estático no lineal con base en las recomendaciones de la Norma Ecuatoriana de Construcción NEC-15 en complemento con el código internacional ASCE 41-17. Se concluye que las secciones y armados no son adecuados para garantizar un buen desempeño sísmico, ya que la estructura alcanzó un nivel de colapso para el sismo de diseño. En cada análisis se consideró la influencia de la mampostería en el comportamiento estructural. El reforzamiento estructural con base en paneles de relleno (enchape) mejoró el desempeño sísmico de la estructura alcanzando un nivel de seguridad de vida para el sismo de diseño, y a su vez aumentó la capacidad de carga lateral máxima en el sentido más flexible.es-ES
