The author sustains that Hildebrand and his colleagues proved, by means of factor analysis, the possibility of establishing the difference between outstanding and mediocre educators. Accordingly, the degree of excellency of a university educator depends upon his ability to: first, communicate formal knowledge in an organized manner; second, teach those methods which enable the student to acquire new knowledge by himself; and third, transfer to the students the richness of his own personality, by means of communicating to them certain qualities essential to the educational process, such as enthusiasm, honesty, spirit of inquiry and human sensitivity. The author offers a rather ampie and detailed description of each of these traits. Out of it emerges an ideal profile of the university educator.
