The present article is oriented to the reinforcement of a house built informally with 3 floors located in the citadel Emprovit, Turubamba sector in the south of the city of Quito - Ecuador, which, through field visits and laboratory tests, obtained all the data necessary for the correct development of the work. The structural system of the house is based on frames assembled by columns, lightened slab in two directions and band beams. An evaluation was made in accordance with the parameters established by the NEC15 and ASCE 41-17 standards, in which it results that the house has a high seismic vulnerability, in addition, that the structural analysis resulted in that it does not have a good behavior. dynamic, in addition to this, the building does not perform well in the non-linear range, so structural reinforcement is necessary. Two strengthening alternatives may be needed in order to withstand major seismic events, wall cladding and column cladding. It will be extended that the alternative with the best results is the cladding of walls, since it improves its lateral and dynamic behavior, in addition to not exceeding the admissible stress of the soil, on the contrary, the cladding of columns, although it improves the dynamic behavior , the soil stress exceeds the admissible one, so it is necessary to reinforce the foundation, in addition to this, with the proposed sections, the drifts do not comply with the regulations, so larger sections are necessary, which will cause a much higher cost of reinforcement and an impact to the architectural part, due to the reduction of spaces.
