Conforme han avanzado los siglos, el objetivo mismo de su uso puede llegar a ser cuestionado ante la presencia de estudiantes con una identidad de género diversa, pues terminan siendo un factor de segregación e invisibilización. La problemática social que implica la perpetuación del binarismo de género en los uniformes escolares, trae consigo no solo la negativa de representación de este colectivo de estudiantes, sino también un retroceso en el deseo de las instituciones educativas de ser cada vez más inclusivas y diversas. Por lo anterior, el presente ensayo crítico hace una reflexión basada en un análisis histórico-sociológico a partir de un recorrido cronológico en torno a la necesidad de abolir el género como elemento diferenciador de los uniformes escolares, partiendo desde la hipótesis de que esto es contrario a la razón originaria de estas indumentarias. En conclusión, se plantea la necesidad de volver al sentido original de estas prendas, como herramientas escolares promotoras de la igualdad, considerando la diversidad que se vive en los espacios educativos contemporáneos.The origin of school uniforms has clear religious influences, and their primary historical motivation was the adoption of values such as humility and reducing any kind of inequality. As the centuries have progressed, the very purpose of their use can become questionable in the presence of students with a diverse gender identity, as they end up being a factor of segregation and invisibilisation. The social problems implied by the perpetuation of gender binarism in school uniforms brings with it not only the negative representation of this group of students, but also a setback in the desire of educational institutions to be increasingly inclusive and diverse. Therefore, this critical essay makes a reflection based on a historical-sociological analysis of the need to abolish gender as a differentiating element of school uniforms, starting from the hypothesis that this is contrary to the original reason for these clothes.
