En el marco de la sociedad postindustrial y la reconfiguración del Estado de Bienestar, el Trabajo Social como disciplina y práctica científica encara los retos de mediatizar las relaciones entre el Estado, el mercado y la sociedad. Ello amerita repasar los fundamentos epistemológicos de esta disciplina, de ahí que el objetivo principal del artículo sea reflexionar respecto a sus especificidades en el marco del paradigma interdisciplinario y la división sociotécnica del trabajo. Se siguió un método sintético bajo un paradigma constructivista y se emplearon recursos bibliográficos. Se argumenta que la teorización en Trabajo Social es una necesidad ante la búsqueda de asideros existenciales para afrontar la falta de certezas derivada de la crisis de los metarrelatos de la modernidad y las contradicciones internas del Estado de Bienestar. Se concluye que el Trabajo Social como disciplina encuentra una veta potencial en la indagación de epistemologías alternativas al paradigma occidental, en particular aquellas vinculadas al buen vivir, en tanto que complementan la búsqueda de bienestar y calidad de vida ligadas al ejercicio de intervención del trabajo social, en función de su vocación emancipadora.
In the framework of the post-industrial society and the reconfiguration of the Welfare State, Social Work as a discipline and scientific practice faces the challenges of mediating relations between the State, the market and society. This merits reviewing the epistemological foundations of this discipline, hence the main objective of the article is to reflect on its specificities within the framework of the interdisciplinary paradigm and the sociotechnical division of labor. A synthetic method was followed under a constructivist paradigm and bibliographic resources were used. It is argued that theorizing in Social Work is a necessity in the face of the search for existential supports to face the lack of certainties derived from the meta-narrative crisis of modernity and the internal contradictions of the Welfare State. It is concluded that Social Work as discipline finds a potential streak in the investigation of alternative epistemologies to the western paradigm, in particular those linked to good living, while complementing the search for well-being and quality of life linked to the exercise of intervention in social work, based on its emancipatory vocation.
